With access to some pretty incredible beaches, it’s no surprise that travelers come to Manuel Antonio to try and find a great surf spot. Beaches like Playa Manuel Antonio are great for surfers of all levels but don’t expect to find giant towering waves that require too much skill.

Remember that, because it is such a famous beach, you’ll have a crowd of spectators watching from the shore. Meanwhile, Playa Biesanz is a little more tucked away - it’s often referred to as the “secret beach” - and is great for beginner and intermediate surfers looking to hone their skills.

Playa Biesanz is also ideal for longboarding at low tide, so if you’re looking to try something new, this might be perfect for you. It’s worth noting that there are plenty of surf schools and hotels that offer private and group surf lessons open to all levels. Make sure to ask around to find one that best suits your needs. Or, if you’d prefer, you can also ask about board rentals and head out on your own.

The lodge

Sitting on the outskirts of the National Park, stay in the thick of the lush rainforest, ecological wonders, and fascinating wildlife at Selina Manuel Antonio. With inspiring biodiversity just footsteps from our hotel, fill your days with action-packed activities, discover a range of incredible species, kayak down the Paquita River, or go surfing on paradise beaches.

If you are looking to get a flavor of the town, taste your way around Quepos and indulge in local delicacies, located less than 5km from Selina.

Along with accommodation to suit every travel budget, take advantage of on-site features, including three swimming pools, a jungle garden, a wellness deck, a restaurant and rooftop bar, a CoWork, and complimentary wifi.

Wake up to the sounds of chirping birds and howling monkeys before experiencing the magic of Manuel Antonio’s National Park with expert guides. Choose from a range of hiking trails, cross hanging bridges, and discover hidden waterfalls, or sail away on a catamaran tour (and if you’re lucky, you might even get a dolphin or whale sighting)! Back at Selina, kick back with a craft beer, hang out by the pool, and listen to local DJs and bands as you party late into the night with like-minded travelers.

Getting around Manuel Antonio

Getting around Manuel Antonio is quite simple and most people agree you don’t even need your own car to explore some of the best spots in town. Taxis and public transportation are quite common and very affordable, and most drivers in the area know exactly where everything is located, so it won’t be an issue traveling to most tourist destinations. For example, there is a constant flow of buses between Manuel Antonio and Quepos that drops people off at the entrance of Manuel Antonio National Park and costs about 65 cents each way.

Make sure you speak to the staff at your hotel in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, about certain fees and distances before agreeing to a price with local drivers. While most taxis might have a meter, it’s definitely not guaranteed that they’ll use them during the ride. It’s always best to be informed beforehand to avoid getting overcharged!

Bicycles and scooters are also another popular way to get around Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. If you’re hoping to hire your own, speak to someone at reception about a reliable rental company. However, keep in mind that the roads can be quite steep and hilly, and they might be a challenge for even the most experienced riders.
