The Tamarindo region is perfect for beginners, intermediates, and advanced surfers because the wave really is whatever you make it. There will be some days that the swell will reach overhead, but most days it's going to stick between 3-5 feet.

If you are looking for medium or large waves, your best bet is going to be March (still in the dry season) through August. November is also a great month for swells. But if you are looking for more fun/smaller waves and not too many people then September to October is your best option.

The boat

Playgrounds is a 51 ft. PowerCat (sails at a speed of 18-19 knots a top speed of 25 knots) with an incredibly sleek design and innovative appliances, equipped with a three-cabin layout featuring a private ensuite bathroom with shower, each. The boat sleeps 6 people.

The outside space is a great place to sit back and relax. The flybridge seats 8-10 people under the shade and includes a wet bar, a fridge, an ice-maker, and a grill. There is another big double sunbed in front of it. The front of the main deck, which is also accessible from the saloon, includes another shaded sitting area with tables.

Every area in the boat is filled with natural light and stunning ocean views from the panoramic windows and besides that, the aft door can slide open completely and a door to the front of the boat allows easy circulation and great natural ventilation for those hot, sunny days. Some other great features are; AC in all bedrooms and saloon, TV with movies in saloon & master bedroom, music system with separate volume control for different areas, WIFI network (within cell phone range) and last but least, life vests and life rafts.

After a lifelong passion for the ocean and all that it entails, our Captain Pete was able to bring this project to reality. Pete was born and raised in a fishing village near Rome. Since a young ages he's had a passion for traveling the world fishing and chasing waves.

After the age of 16, our Captain explored the European coasts of Portugal, Spain, and France but he could not resist falling in love with Indonesia, Australia, Fiji, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Thailand when he got there. After a couple of years he traveled to Central and South America where he has spent over 12 years doing what he loves, and here in Costa Rica is where Playgrounds and Pete’s dreams live. This is not only a vacation, this is an unforgettable experience.

“Every day is different from another, so let's see what nature will offer us today and enjoy it as much as we can” - Captain Pete.
