Playa Negra is one of the top Costa Rica travel destinations, with many world-famous surf breaks and waves for all kinds of surf enthusiasts. This is the perfect beach destination where adventure seekers, solo travelers, couples and families can experience the ultimate escape to paradise.

In Costa Rica, there are only two seasons: the dry season (October-April) and the Green Season (May-August), which is also known as the wet season. The Green Season is the top time for surfing on the Pacific coast. The low season is not bad. It’s just a little less powerful and with less consistent waves and warmer temperatures!

Playa Negra Surf Lodge is a small family-owned business. We are on the northwest Guanacaste coastline of Costa Rica, in the heart of a quiet rural community and surrounded by dry tropical forest with unique natural settings. Our lodge is a short 9-min walk to the beach, close to epic surf breaks, and within walking distance to restaurants and local stores.

Our lodge has just been renovated and has a laid-back boutique style. Our rooms and studios are perfect for family or groups of friends looking for a relaxing environment. They provide privacy and all kinds of features to make your stay as pleasant as possible, including air conditioning, WiFi, TV with a large movie selection, large windows, and much more. We have a non-smoking policy throughout the hotel and we kindly ask our guests to respect that and not smoke on our property.

Additionally, guests have access to a fire pit grill, dipping pool, a secure parking lot, rancho with a wooden deck for stretching, hammocks for relaxing, an on-site restaurant, and a market featuring the best organic and fresh food in Playa Negra. We also have a gift shop with products made by local Costa Rican women.

Food

Jalapeño is a fun and casual restaurant with organic fresh food and a variety of delicious dishes made-to-order. We use the freshest vegetables from Costa Rica, buying produce from the local organic farms whenever possible. Our tortillas are made by hand, without adding lard or shortening, and our homemade hot sauces have become famous for their great flavors. We are committed to using the highest quality ingredients and we will be happy to serve you during your stay.

We offer various types of activities for families and guests looking for more alternatives other than surfing. Choose from surf lessons, volcano visits, professional photoshoots, massage, Spanish Lessons, horseback riding, biking, canopy, spearfishing, skateboarding, and more.
