Surfers Lodge Peniche

Peniche is known as the Wave Capital of Portugal, with the most consistent and biggest variety of waves anywhere in the country. The key to these conditions is the varied coastline, formed over time as the islands of Peniche and Baleal joined to the mainland, creating peninsulas with beaches facing in different directions. This means that no matter the swell or wind direction, there’s always a good place to surf.

Peniche is home to the world-class beach break of Supertubos, made famous as a WSL Championship Tour stop since 2009. But you don’t have to be a pro surfer to enjoy a trip to Peniche. The surrounding area has a multitude of waves for all levels, mostly breaking over sand, making this one of the best places in Europe to learn to surf. From the lodge, located in Baleal, you can walk to surf if conditions are right. Within 10 min by car, you can reach all of the best spots in the area.

A Perfect Day Surfing at Peniche

In the autumn the wind turns south, which means offshore almost everywhere, (except Supertubos) and the weather is clear and can be warmer than summer. A perfect day would start with a morning solo surf in the middle of the bay (between the town of Peniche + Baleal, where we are located – loads of space and if the sandbanks are right, perfect waves for everyone), then a big breakfast at the lodge. The afternoon would be spent at the beach on the coast north of the Lodge, home to epic cliffs and kilometers of pumping beach breaks. The day would close with sunset surf with friends and family.

Best conditions for Supertubos

• Best tide: mid to high, preferably incoming

• Best swell direction: west

• Best swell period: all periods can deliver good surf

• Best wind: calm or light to moderate offshore (ENE is straight offshore)

• Best size: chest high to double overhead

• Best season: fall, winter, springc

Here you'll find a vintage surf vibe infused with 4-star luxury, mixing traditional hotel whites with unique decoration sourced from our travels. We’ve invested in excellent products made in Portugal, such as extra comfy mattresses and plush bath towels. We have 2 Suites, 6 Double Rooms, 9 Twin Rooms, and 2 Family Rooms with bunk beds.

Surfing

Peniche has a variety of waves for all levels, so if you’re bringing the family or girlfriend that surfs longboard, there’s always fun for everyone. Surfing lessons and packages available.

Dining

You’ll never leave hungry: our portions are made for surfers! Our honest, well-prepared food has great flavor from the fantastic local products the area has to offer. We have an International cooking style, focusing on burgers, tacos, fish, and lots of veggie options.

Wellness

Yoga is a great compliment to surfing. Adding some classes to your surf schedule helps you recover faster and avoid soreness while practicing mental flow and focus. Yoga improves strength, flexibility, and balance- skills you need to succeed in the water. Our yoga instructor teaches ‘Healing Yoga’, with a touch of Reiki.
