The surf

Peak swell
Variable swell

With some of the most consistent surf conditions in Costa Rica, Nosara is popular with wave-riders looking to break away from the large crowds and focus on the sport surrounded by other passionate enthusiasts. With beaches available for both beginners and advanced riders, finding a surf hotel in Nosara, Costa Rica, is easy, no matter how skilled you might be. From the long surf break at Playa Guiones to the choppy reef break at Playa Pelada, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to hit the water and show off your skills.

The best time of the year to surf in Nosara is from March to October, sometimes even November. With minimal tourists around, surfers can enjoy beaches to themselves for a chance to hone their skills.

The lodge

Tucked away in the Nicoya Peninsula, escape to a tropical paradise at Selina Nosara. Sandwiched between Playa Pelada and Playa Guiones, spend your days soaking up the sun on pristine beaches, ride waves at some of the area's most sought-after surf spots, or take a 6-minute drive and explore the flora and fauna in Nosara's Biological reserve.

With plenty of conservation efforts in the region, don't miss the amazing opportunity to interact with howler monkeys at the Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary, located just 4km from Selina.

Along with pet-friendly accommodation options, on-site features include a swimming pool, a wellness area, a shared kitchen, a restaurant and bar, a CoWork, and complimentary WiFi.

Stretch out in a sunrise yoga class and enjoy a fresh breakfast before following the green Chorotega trail to Playa Nosara and Playa Pelada. Catch waves on some of Nosara's best breaks with Selina Surf Club, or take a dip in the pool and get productive in our work. As the sun sets, head over to Ostional National Wildlife Refuge and watch baby ridley sea turtles hatch before joining local and international travelers at our curated evening events.

Getting around Nosara

Because of the terrain, getting around Nosara without a 4-wheel drive can be a little difficult - especially if you're looking to travel between beaches for a spot of surf. Most people recommend renting an ATV for this occasion: this is the fastest - and most exciting! - way to travel around town with minimum effort. ATV rentals are available by the hour, the day, or the week. We suggest you ask reception at your hostel in Nosara, Costa Rica, to help you find the most reliable rental company.

That being said, if you're simply looking to kick back and relax by the beach, it's also possible to get around town on foot or with a bicycle. If you're staying in Playa Guiones, for example, it'll be easy to move around and find everything you need for a comfortable stay. From beautiful accommodation suited for every budget to local restaurants, shops, and even a pharmacy, all these essentials are within easy reach without the need for a car or ATV.
