Explore eastern Indonesia in search of uncrowded waves and raw, pumping, smoking surf perfection. Nature's elements around here are unique, sizzling, and wild - seriously. We are not exploring to score the world's most famous waves. This is why we stick off from the perfect, beautiful but eventually crowded Mentawai Islands.

If you really want to get off the grid and surf in the wild, with only you and your friends in the lineup, we would need to explore with you some of our favorite secret spots, somewhere further east. Also, of course, we cruise the classic surf charter routes such as Lombok and West Sumbawa, not a secret any longer, but we usually still find some good sessions for ourselves as well. This area hosts one world-class wave next to the other, perfectly suited for all levels.

We usually cruise rather slow, there really is no need to rush as we get enough surfing times anyways. This is Sri Noa Noa's style of surfing and traveling. Join us on our mission for having time and peace, surfing uncrowded waves with only your friends. Contact us and let's share some waves together - no hassle, no rush, just simple life, and empty surf!

The boat

Sri Noa Noa was built in 1977 by Frenchman Philippe Petinaud, a former Olympic and Americas Cup sailor. He explored the area aboard Sri Noa Noa for years. Back in the 70s, Indonesia was a land full of exotic miracles and wild adventures. A pure paradise for sailors and adventurers: pristine, untouched scenery. Our classic Indo surf charter has been extensively refurbished and is immaculately maintained.

You can still feel all the adventure and history breathing through the old teak wood. In general, we like to keep things simple. We provide new mattresses and high-quality sheets & pillows, manufactured with natural fabrics only. We have 6 beds (1 queen and 5 singles in shared berths), a small bathroom, and an outdoor kitchen/BBQ. There are custom-fitted sunbeds with sunshades on the upper deck, so you have plenty of space to chill out with 360-degree ocean views. Relax on it after the surf still watching the waves.

Instead of unnecessary luxury aboard, we want to make sure you have everything that is really important.

Good food, good sleep, and low to no crowds.

The real luxury of the boat is the intimate service that you will experience. You'll have your own captain/photographer, mechanic, and chef on board. Certainly in good hands! And, again, most importantly - nothing better than surfing with a small group only. This is our kind of luxury!

We offer unique, exclusive boat trips in small groups in the Eastern Indonesian Archipelago. Our boat Sri Noa Noa takes exclusive groups of friends and family on holidays of a lifetime. Whether you are into surfing, snorkeling or just enjoy the journey, we can tailor a trip to suit your needs.

The Sri Noa Noa has a unique place in Indonesia’s maritime tourism history with a provenance that reads like a modern-day adventure classic, the main character being their creator, ex-French Olympic and Americas Cup sailor, Philippe Petiniaud. Here’s a brief timeline of events:

1977 – Sri Noa Noa launched in Benoa Harbour, Bali. Philippe sailed (no engine at that time) and explored the Eastern Indonesian archipelago going as far north and Singapore and as far south as Queensland, Australia.

1985 – Sri Noa Noa was fitted with an engine, cabins upgraded, and rigging changed to accommodate his wife in comfort.

1991 – Sri Noa Noa takes its first paying guests – 2 surfers wanting to go to Grajagan, East Java, who saw the boat moored in Benoa and made an offer too good to refuse. She has been taking charters ever since.

1998 – Philippe sells Sri Noa Noa to Mark Taplin from South Australia and moves to north Queensland to work on the land. Mark approaches Freeline Indonesian Surf Adventures to market surf trips on Sri Noa Noa.

2002 – Mark Taplin sells Sri Noa Noa to Stuart Horstman of Freeline Indonesian Surf Adventures. Sri Noa Noa continues plying the waters of the eastern Indonesian archipelago, providing ‘tips of a lifetime’ to small groups of friends and families.

2017 – As Stuart focusses now on his surf camp, Phil & Claudie - two friends and business partners with a decade of experience in the surf travel industry - take over to continue the legacy of Sri Noa Noa with new energy and drive. They kept what was already good and improved what has become necessary over the years.
