Milfontes is a village located on the western coast of Alentejo in Portugal. Due to its prime location, it offers friendly, enjoyable waves that beginners and intermediates can surf. The surf in this area is consistent throughout all the summer months, offering those typical easy mellow waves from the south of Europe.

The lodge

The surf camp is on a small farm, on the town’s seaside, only minutes away from the fishing port and 15 minutes walking from the city center. While following permaculture principles and an eco-friendly way of living off the earth, we aim to connect people to the land and healthy sports activities. We are located on the “Rota Vicentina”, a famous walking and cycling program with different trails, perfect for hiking lovers.

At our Milfontes Surfcamp, we have rooms on our rustic Villa, and we also offer a private room inside a freshly renovated old-school camper’s van! We can fit ten people at our surf camp in total. You will find the perfect accommodation to suit your needs, whether you are a solo traveler or if you are part of a group of friends taking a surf trip! There is room for everyone in the family!

Activities

During your stay, you can learn permaculture practices, sustainable practices, surfing, helping in the organic garden, enjoy local activities (SUP, horse riding, coast walks), or enjoy the tranquillity of the Alentejo way of life. We also can offer Portuguese cooking workshops (for a small fee). This camp was created to invite you to explore another beautiful and more hidden part of Portugal. Our price includes daily transportation to the surf spots of Malhão and Furnas, depending on the tides and surfing conditions, so you can get the best cruisy fun waves on Costa Vicentina.

Our surf camp offers a perfect balance between a relaxed holiday and a new opportunity for you to learn and work on several sustainability practices, especially permaculture. The activities we run on-site are based on environmental concerns, and we aim to pass this type of knowledge to all guests that visit us. The surf camp location also offers amazing views within a short walking distance, and the natural beauty surrounding the area will make you feel astonished and want to come back every summer!

Food

When you think of Recipes from Portugal, you instantly dream of the incredibly fresh seafood, fresh bread and tasty local produce. So we follow local traditions and use fresh, delicious ingredients on our ever-changing menu of delicious food Cooked up by our famous local chef Joana.

We offer breakfast daily and dinners Monday till Friday. On the weekends, we offer BBQ nights (extra fee) or you can enjoy a friendly group night out at a local restaurant. Most of the produce for the food we prepare comes from our chemical-free gardens and eggs from our chickens. Lunch can be ordered and prepared daily at a small fee of 6 euros and will be delivered to you at the beach, so you never have to leave the ocean!

Rapture Milfontes is closed from September to June every year. We open in July and August.

Rapture Surf Camps

Leading trips since 2003

Rapture Surf Camps were founded in 2003 by two amazing people with one thing in common - a love of surfing. Not just the sport, but the lifestyle and the travel and adventure involved in the search for new places to surf in far-off countries while experiencing diverse cultures.

One came from Australia, a stronghold of modern surfing. He was born and bred with the ocean on his doorstep and started surfing at a very young age, competing in contests and eventually becoming one of Sydney’s top surf photographers. Later, one of Portugal’s most respected big wave water photographers. The other hailed from Austria, a country landlocked on all sides. Without the ocean nearby, from an early age, his afternoons and weekends were spent snowboarding in the winter. And, of course, wakeboarding in the summer. It was not until later in life that he was blessed with a love of surfing. He pursued his new passion at every opportunity.

Each an entrepreneur in his own right, a chance meeting while surfing and traveling in Morocco resulted in the two putting their heads together in order to find a way to pursue their dreams. They wanted to surf great waves for the rest of their lives, the dream of all surfers. And so Rapture Surf Camps was born.

Now they’re a network of seven unique surf camps in four countries on three continents. In the last fifteen years, we’ve helped more than fifteen thousand people from all over the world to learn to surf and find the best waves.
