Huvadhoo and Addu Atolls (often referred to as the Southern/Outer Atolls) are located in the most southern section of the Maldives. Although not completely uncrowded, there are significantly fewer surf charters and surf resorts operating in this area, so even the most popular spots in this region tend to be relatively empty.

We will run 10-Night trips at the Outer Atoll every season from March to October. Of all the Maldives surf spots, the breaks in the Outer Atolls remain among the most secluded and idyllic, preserving the reality of a remote island paradise that comes complete with incredible waves.

The boat

Maavahi is an 85ft/27ft wide traditional Maldivian cruiser perfect for navigating the tight and shallow reef passes that frequent the Maldives archipelago. The boat has three decks and seven beautiful, well-furnished air-conditioned ensuite cabins.

The vessel's interior is well-lit with spacious dining areas and an outdoor lounge bar/dining area for wining and dining in the great outdoors. In addition to the inviting and cozy indoor dining areas, Maavahi has a large shaded sundeck perfect for a 360-degree view of the beautiful Maldivian Islands.

Facilities on Maavahi include 2 sundecks, music and tv/video facilities, indoor games, and an accompanying dingy.

Accompanying the Maavahi upon request is our 53ft support vessel known as a dhoni. The dhoni is an essential feature of any successful surfing or dive trip. Its means we can travel further, get closer to reef passages and stay out longer. It also allows surfers to stow their boards and hardware out of harm's way and opens up space on the Maavahi.

In keeping with our commitment to the environment, the Maavahi produces its own fresh water on board daily – enough to provide up to 250 liters of fresh water per person per day!

Meals & drink

The Maavahi kitchen staff and head chef pride themselves on a memorable culinary experience. Our crew is experienced and many of them have been working on the Maavahi for many years.

They understand the need for good food and lots of it. After surfing up to 4 times a day or doing several dives, you get tired and hungry! Our experienced chef, Ishara from Sri Lanka, will cook up a storm – 3 times a day - with a mixture of delicious cuisines and not just curries!

Snacks, including fruit, chocolate bars, toast, tea, and coffee, are also available while onboard.

Surf guides

You may remember a tall, lean, smiley, quietly-spoken, modest fella nicknamed Hoobs if you have ever been to the Maldives. His natural talent and years of surfing experience mean that Hoobs is often the best surfer in the water. However, Hoobs uses his powers for good, not evil, and can be constantly seen calling his guests into waves as he sits patiently in the lineup.

Hoobs grew up surfing the wave Tiger Stripes, located in the Outer Atolls of the island Gadhdoo, making him the perfect surf guide to take you on a wave hunting journey around his home atoll on board the Maavahi, or anywhere else in the archipelago for that matter! Hoobs knows all the spots and even helped discover many of them.

Activities

Onboard Maavahi, you’ll find a range of activities to keep you entertained between surfs or on the occasional lay day. The main saloon is equipped with a large flat-screen tv with Bluetooth connectivity to play movies or siphon through photos from your trip. A range of board games, cards, and stereo systems are also available for guest use. Activities such as night/day fishing, snorkeling, and visits to local villages are also available. Or if you’re too surfed out to do anything else, just kick back and relax on board.

Orca

An optional extra for your next Maldives adventure is to have the amazing services of our 500hp speed boat Orca. Orca was made for fishing, surf, and dive tours that offer exceptional value for money.

Built in 2019, this brand new speed boat can often be a game-changer when it comes to long-distance travel searching for waves, game fishing, or any successful dive. With her twin 250hp engines, Orca can travel at a top speed of 40 knots, zipping you between islands faster than many high-powered speed boats in the Maldives. For surfers, it means you can travel ahead of your charter boat 4 times faster than anyone else, meaning you get to surf uncrowded waves more often.

Orca is also a great safety vessel. Being able to travel at high speeds in full control means you can be sure help is close by, should accidents happen. Orca is manned by a small team of captains and crew. Captain Rafeez and deckhand Hamil are surfers, divers, and highly knowledgeable fishermen.

A perfect day

"The perfect surfing day at Maavahi is a typical Maldivian sunny day with blue skies and glassy conditions or winds lighter than 10kts with wave heights between 3-7ft.

Start the day waking up early in the morning before sunrise to check the surf, and if it's good, after a quick coffee and a snack and jump right off into action. After a good 2-3 hours of surfing, breakfast would be served, and then, take a rest or chill out until the next session, right before lunch, when the surfers start heading out surfing as they wish.

When you hear the bell chime, it is time for lunch, usually served between noon and 1 pm. We serve a variety of cuisines, from western to Asian. During this time, our surf guide discusses what to do next: if the majority wants to move the boat to a different location, we will do so. Or, if they wish to stay, we would stay back and keep surfing the same spot rest of the day.

The surfers start getting back to the boat by sunset, surfed out, and a grin across the face. At this hour of the day, everyone has got plenty of stories to tell about the best wave of their life. We call it the “Beer Time”, cruising slowly to find a sheltered area nearby to anchor for the night.  Our onboard bar is packed with cold beers and plenty of liquor for the guests to choose from. The Beer Time goes until dinner is served.

For dinner, a hot soup, a buffet with no less than 7 types of dishes followed by a mouthwatering dessert is served. By the end of the dinner, our surf guide would discuss the surf conditions and make plans for the day ahead.

Between 8 pm and 10 pm or even longer, we stay up fishing at the rear platform of the boat, catching verities of jackfish, red snappers, and groupers until we are done for the day." — Mickey Nattz
