Eat, pray, love & surf

"Bali's Bukit Peninsula may have received the most of its attention as the area became famous when Julia Roberts was trying to find herself in the movie "Eat, Pray, Love." However, Padang Padang's endless supply of perfect waves is the main reason we're here. Join us at this great place to hang out and relax after a world-class surf session!"

The legendary Padang Padang has been kept somewhat secretive to be enjoyed by the surf community only. You can still surf the renowned waves all year round, in peace, and surrounded by untouched nature. Depending on your level, you can choose between Padang Padang's famous left or its more mellow cousin Padang Padang Right. You can also rent a scooter and visit another surf spot or explore Bali’s breathtaking scenery.

It is an ideal place to learn how to surf and/or to improve your surf technique. While Padang Padang Left may be a break for the more advanced surfers, Padang Padang Right on the same beach is very gentle and welcoming to beginners and intermediates looking to progress. Close to Padang Padang, you will find other stellar surf spots like Bingin, Uluwatu, Impossibles, and Dreamland. Also, the camp is only 3 km to the north of the famous Uluwatu temple.

The best time of year to surf Padang Padang famous left is the dry season, which lasts from June to September. April, May, and October also provide good size swell and have the advantage of fewer surfers to share them with.

The lodge

Our Bali surf camp Padang Padang is a great place to hang out and relax. The resort offers spacious dorms, luxurious villas, and private bungalows surrounded by beautiful Balinese gardens. Also, the rooms and facilities provide you with everything you need during your stay. In the common areas, you can challenge your surf buddies to a game of pool, or you can enjoy the smooth side of life and take a dip in our stunning swimming pool.

You can enjoy daily yoga sessions in our camp. This is going to help you to unwind after a long day of surfing, as well as with muscle stretching.

Also, camp chefs Sunny and Made will make sure your taste buds are buzzing with local and international flavors. They create delicious dinner menus, both for omnivores and vegetarians. Check our Food section for the recipes they prepare for us on a daily basis.

Our beautiful Balinese gardens, the lounge areas around our swimming pool, the incredible surroundings of the camp and the amazing waves we surf every day are just a few of the reasons you might love Padang!

Make sure you check the comfortable high-end accommodation we offer. Discover the chilled laid back vibe which makes you feel like you’re at home! Sounds like paradise on earth, right?

The surf

Surf Padang Padang – as famous for its natural beauty as it is for its legendary surf. The entrance is unique, having to follow steps down from the cliffs rising above. An idyllic, white sand beach stretching for over 120 meters welcomes you. Also, steep surrounding rocks and lush greenery will make you feel sheltered during your session. Large volcanic boulders and the sandy beach add to its exotic flavor.

Let us show you the true beauty of Bali’s legendary waves — the most consistent and best surfing Asia has to offer. Then, after an energetic day riding waves at nearby breaks, return to Rapture and relax in our traditional gardens or mingle amongst new and old friends or family in our lounges.

The surf school runs from Monday to Sunday and the times for the sessions vary each day depending on the changing tide. Just head down to the board cage and our guides will choose the right board for you.

Our instructors at Padang possess an intimate knowledge of local surf spots and surfing conditions. They are available for lessons, and guided surfing and they love to offer advice on where and when to surf according to your individual skill level, experience, and current wave conditions.

We usually split students into 2 groups for surf lessons, beginners and intermediates. Surf lessons and guiding happen twice a day and include transport as well as information about the spot. We have a large selection of rental boards available for you, from big foamies and mini mals to funboards and shortboards.

The food

At Rapture Surfcamps Bali, we take full advantage of the wonderful flavors and food that Bali recipes have to offer. Our menu contains delicious Balinese classics as well as modern takes on international favorites. We pride ourselves on serving healthy meals and using local produce, thus enhancing your surf camp experience. From yummy banana pancakes with coconut and honey for breakfast to fragrant fish curries for dinner, we’ll ensure that your belly is full and your taste buds are buzzing.

We love food almost as much as we love surfing. So we offer international food recipes as well as local specialties at our camp. Daily 3-course breakfast and delicious and nutritious dinner from Monday to Friday are included in the room rate, so you don’t have to worry about going hungry on your surf trip! On weekends we offer optional homemade BBQ and Pizza Nights shared with our Green Bowl sister camp for company. Our menu contains a variety of dishes for meat lovers and vegetarians. No matter what your preferences are, we can accommodate all diets upon request. For lunch, you can head to the beach and grab a snack from the local cafes or order a meal from the menu at camp. Also, you can go out to town and visit a new restaurant. We’d be glad to give you suggestions and share our favorites.

Leading trips since 2004

During the winter of 2003/2004, two very different people met whilst on holiday in North Africa. They had one thing in common — a love of surfing. Not just the sport, but the lifestyle; the travel and adventure involved in the search for new places to surf in far-off countries while experiencing diverse cultures.

One came from Australia, a stronghold of modern surfing. He was born and bred with the ocean on his doorstep and started surfing at a very young age, competing in contests and eventually becoming one of Sydney´s top surf photographers. Later, one of Portugal’s most respected big wave water photographers.

The other hailed from Austria, a country landlocked on all sides. Without the ocean nearby, from an early age, his afternoons and weekends were spent snowboarding in the winter. And, of course, wakeboarding in the summer. It was not until later in life that he was blessed with a love of surfing — the same love that consumes so many of us. He pursued his new passion at every opportunity.

Each an entrepreneur in his own right, a chance meeting while surfing and traveling in Morocco resulted in the two putting their heads together to find a way to pursue their dreams. To surf great waves for the rest of their lives is the dream of all surfers. And so Rapturecamps was born.

After that first season in Morocco (2004/2005) the pair journeyed to Bali and Portugal, starting two more camps: one at Padang Padang on the east coast of Bali’s legendary Bukit Peninsula. The other is at Ericeira, Europe’s first and only World Surfing Reserve.

Rapturecamps’ founders have had a lot of help along the way and we will never forget this. We would like to thank our friends and family from Australia and Austria who have assisted us in whatever way they could. Also, like all the others that we have met along the way. Big thanks to those who have helped (and still do) with the management of the camps. Also with sourcing vehicles, and of course teaching surf lessons.

Hopefully, after reading this you will see Rapturecamps the way that we see them: as the homes of these two friends and not just another surf camp.
