The short and punchy beach break in San Pancho can be the perfect match for experienced surfers on shortboards when the conditions are right. However, for beginners, the waves are not suitable and can be dangerous if you don’t have experience, so this is not the ideal location for surf lessons.

We recommend renting a car if you’d like to explore the nearby surf breaks. La Lancha has fun, mellow waves ideal for beginners. For those with a bit more experience, the long green waves and uncrowded lineups are ideal for working on your technique. And if you are confident and want to try something different or more challenging, we also offer coached trips out to other breaks in the area.

If you want to take surf lessons in Punta Mita or Sayulita all you need to make a reservation with Wildmex the day before and we’ll meet you at our headquarters, where we have 200+ quality boards to choose from, two changing rooms, individual boxes to store your belongings safely, clean bathrooms, an outdoor shower to rinse off when you come out of the water, fresh towels, rashguards and wetsuit tops for those sensitive to cold water. We look forward to seeing you!

The lodge

Unplug, rejuvenate, and explore natural paradise on the Mexican Pacific coastline, north of San Pancho, Nayarit. The Tailwind Jungle lodge was built with love by the Jacobi family in 2007. Retreats and adventurers (couples, families, honeymooners, solo travelers) from around the globe delight in this radiant jungle and stunning wild beaches.

Creatively designed bungalows, palapas and casitas are perched amidst the palms, offering glamping and tree-house style comfort with Swiss Family Robinson vibes.

Tailwind has a collection of 7 different creatively designed units - bungalows, palapas and casitas, all of which are perched on the hillside to minimize environmental impact. The lodge is nestled amidst the palms and offers a variety of jungle and ocean views. Each unit offers a unique jungle experience.

Ocean adventures

A short distance from the lodge, you may kayak to secluded beaches, sail to the whales, SUP & surf blissful waves... Choose your ocean adventure!

Sailing: Where will the wind blow you? Sailing vessel “Tailwind” is ready to take you to sea. Watch for ocean life, swim & SUP from the boat! Help us support ocean conservation with our sustainable sailing non-profit.

Sea Kayaking: Our specialty! We have thoroughly explored this majestic coastline via kayak. Let us show you our favorite place to paddle.

Surfing: A perfect place to learn on gentle waves or explore intermediate breaks.

Jungle adventures

Lounge in the hammock or explore the jungle! Grab a map and journey along hiking trails that take you to spectacular ridges and secluded beaches. Reconnect and nourish your body with yoga and massage. Or venture into San Pancho for a taste of tropical culture.

Yoga: Breath, move, flow or get slow. The jungle is the perfect place to reconnect with yourself, rejuvenate and balance your mind & body. Namaste!

Hiking & beach: Journey along jungle ridgelines through mango and avocado groves to secluded beaches. Delight in colorful birds, blossoms, butterflies and other tropical wildlife along the way.

Massage: Massage is a delightful way to treat yourself!

Community

Throughout our development, the Tailwind jungle lodge has created a strong relationship with the local San Pancho community. Over the years, the Jacobi Family has hosted special community events in the jungle and donated time and money to support sustainable development in this area. We are very proud to be a part of the San Pancho community. Check out these amazing organizations in San Pancho.

After many wilderness expeditions, the Jacobi family turned their passion for adventure and daydreams of a family business into reality. They started with a blank canvas of jungle in 2005, rolled up their sleeves, and slowly created the Tailwind Jungle Lodge. Over a decade later, the family continues to work, play and thrive together in the Mexican jungle. They are eager to share their jungle home with you!

The creation of the lodge has been the most rewarding and challenging adventure that the family has undertaken—they have come a long way since their daydreams in the wilds. Read more about their journey in our upcoming book Wildpreneurs: Turning Passion into Business (published by HarperCollins Leadership).

Sustainability

In March 2009, the Tailwind Jungle Lodge became the first certified sustainable eco-lodge in Mexico. This certification through Sustainable Travel International had been a goal for the lodge since its inception and represents the Jacobi family's commitment to natural living and sustainability. At the Tailwind Jungle Lodge, we embrace a holistic approach to sustainability that includes three overarching elements:

  • The health of the natural world;

  • The health of the San Pancho community: culturally and economically;

  • The health of the Tailwind Jungle Lodge and our ability to make low-impact living!

Realistic, comfortable and cost-effective.

We are proud to be a part of the thriving and international community of San Pancho. We hope to support and set an example for local businesses as we protect and connect travelers with this natural paradise. We are committed to cultivating a presence that is eco-conscious, community-oriented and culturally mindful.

Community

Throughout our development, the Tailwind jungle lodge has created a strong relationship with the local San Pancho community. Over the years the Jacobi Family has hosted special community events in the jungle as well as donated time and money to support sustainable development in this area. We are very proud to be a part of the San Pancho community.

A must see in San Pancho is our community center, Entreamigos (translation: between friends). Founded in 2007, by Nicole Swedlow, the center has become an example of what can come of culturing positive relationships between the visitors, expats and the local community.

Entreamigos encourages visitors to the center and also welcomes groups or individuals who wish to get involved in volunteer projects.

The Tailwind jungle lodge is proud to support our local scholarship program & recycling program.

Guests of the Tailwind Jungle Lodge can contribute by making a donation at the Entreamigos website.

Recycling program

We are lucky to have a recycling program in San Pancho! In fact, the community center does its best to reuse before recycling. Recicla San Pacho has been focusing on finding innovative local uses for recycled products and has spawned a series of small business enterprises for local residents. Beautiful glasses are being made from recycled wine bottles, as well as candles, goblets and other products. Women make belts and bracelets from soda can tabs, purses, picture frames and collage art from magazines, jewelry boxes from newspaper and orange peels and many other amazing products from items that were previously disregarded as trash. These items can be purchased in the EA Gallery. The proceeds from your purchase support the Recycling program and educational programs at Entreamigos.
