Love of nature and passion for adventure

"One of the most enchanting areas in Portugal: the “Serra de Sintra”, a mountain range west of Lisbon that stretches directly to the Atlantic Ocean. Climbing and surfing here mean breathtaking nature, relaxed people and of course unique experiences. The people you will meet at the surf camp love nature, surf and adventure."

Surfing in Portugal is every surfer’s dream: there are countless world-class surf spots around here. From beginners to professionals, Portugal has a surf spot for each. The surroundings of the SaltyWay surf camp are blessed with numerous of them.

In the area around Sintra, there are a lot of beaches and breaks, which are ideal for surfers of all levels. From ingenious beach breaks to endless point breaks to challenging reef breaks, you will find a wide selection of different waves.

Between the months of March to November is the best time to join us. We surf in Praia Grande during summer and during autumn and spring in Praia Carcavelos, where the waves are usually smaller.

The lodge

Our Salty Way House is a beautiful place in Praia das Maças. Here you will find everything you need for a comfortable surfing or climbing holiday. The house has three floors, several bathrooms, a kitchen and a large living room with sofas and fireplace for cozy evenings in the house.

The house has a huge garden with BBQ, pizza oven, outdoor kitchen, and yoga sun platform. Internet, coffee, and tea are free of charge.

Located only a three-minute walk from the beach. For surfing, we go to the neighboring Praia Grande. The location of the house is ideal for a holiday in Portugal because just as fast as on the beach, you are in the center of Praia das Maças. There are cozy bars and cafés, small shops, a supermarket, and a farmer’s market with fresh fish and vegetables from the region every morning. Two minutes from our front door, a bus will take you to Sintra if you feel like sightseeing. The neighboring Praia Grande is only a 15-minute walk away.

Our tip: Praia das Maças is also famous for its 18th-century red tram, which takes you through a picturesque landscape to the historically and culturally famous city of Sintra (about 45 minutes).

Self-catering in Salty Way

It is well known that common interests are welded together. In the SaltyWay Surfcamp in Portugal, nature lovers like surfers and climbers meet and experience a nice holiday together. An essential part of your active holiday is being together in a group. We believe that life together forms a strong bond – both during and after the time at SaltyWay. That is why we encourage our guests to shop and cook together. We provide you with a kitchen and a living area. In fact, we definitely had the best evenings in recent years when we cooked and ate together and then shared stories about the day's adventures over a few glasses of wine.

Sightseeing

During your holiday week, you can explore the area on your own. There are many beautiful sights, dreamy villages, and beautiful nature. You can take walks or hikes on the cliffs or in the mountains.

The beautiful landscape offers a wonderful backdrop. We can also provide you with one of our bicycles. In addition, there is a bus service to Sintra right outside our front door. You will find several castles/world heritage sites, an art museum, and numerous shops and cafés.

Surfing

If you want to surf in Portugal, you have made the right decision. Because in Portugal the temperatures are warm and the waves are great. In the SaltyWay surf camp area, mass tourism is still far away and you can enjoy untouched nature and real insider tips. You can come to us as an experienced surfer, but we are also happy to welcome beginners who want to learn surfing in Portugal. We have the right surf spot for every surf level.

Climbing

On a climbing course in Portugal, you have everything: the sea and the mountains. The climbing courses at SaltyWay are more than just a one-week Toprope climbing. Here you climb in Portugal’s beautiful nature, at beautiful climbing spots by the sea or in the mountains. You can have a good time with us as a beginner or experienced climber. You will learn new climbing techniques and get tips on how to improve your climbing. Our goal is to get you so far on your climbing holiday that you can go more independent climbing and bouldering. In your climbing program in Portugal, you will have five days of climbing courses.

Yoga

In addition to the surf course, we offer you two 90-minute yoga sessions per week. Yoga offers you a welcome relief from the aching muscles of climbing and the opportunity to concentrate and find your way back after an adrenaline-filled day. The yoga is specially designed for climbers and surfers and aims to regenerate and improve your mobility. Carolina, your yoga teacher at Salty Way has a lot of experience. She is educated in performance art and loves to share her knowledge and passion for the yoga lifestyle.
