The wave breaks year-round with larger swells, starting in April and continuing through summer's northern hemisphere. This is an ideal time to visit because swells are more consistent and the lineup is less crowded, but the surf is bigger and there might be some rain out there.
For those who like the cooler temperatures, clean and consistent knee to shoulder/head high waves occur in the high season, from October through April.
Mid-December to mid-January is when the waves are the smallest yet very fun, clean, and consistent - ideal for beginners and longboarders in the knee-to-waist-high club. If you are an advanced surfer, we do venture to unmarked locations for a change of scenery at this time, but I recommend spring/summer as an alternative.
La Casita is located on a quiet residential street, just one block from the beach and surf point at Playa La Saladita. It's a quick walk to the waves, as well as all beachfront restaurants. The neighborhood is very laid back and friendly. It is still a very rustic undeveloped area which lends a lot to its charm.
There are a couple of small restaurants and bars in the village for different tastes, such as Marejada Surf Spot, a great place for burgers, Lourdes Bar & Grill, where most travelers meet to watch the sunset and enjoy live music, Ilianet Restaurant & Bar that specializes in seafood, and Tortas y Mariscos Kevin, that offers local food.
I'm originally from New York but have been living in this pacific coastal paradise since 2005. I love to surf, dive, snowboard and travel. I have been hosting people and traveling through for the last few years and I am really enjoying the experience.
The place where I live is a surfer's paradise and I love hosting guests and providing them with unique and authentic experiences. Though my guests may be far from home with me, they get to feel like a local!
