To visit Samoa is to take advantage of the great and uncrowded waves. Our country has surf year-round and is blessed with many world-class spots. Guests have access to several great breaks within paddling distance and even more a short boat ride from our resort. To help you access those areas, an experienced surf guide can be arranged. Besides their lifelong experience surfing in the area, they always know what's happening where and when, and have their own boats, making it possible for you to choose breaks based on weather conditions, your time, and your surfing experience.
The most consistent swells come from way down in the Southern Ocean and intensify before exploding on Upolu Island's south shore during peak season, that's from April to October. February, March and April, and October are good options with smooth, clean conditions due to the lack of trade winds. The southern hemisphere summer (Dec-Mar) is when the North Shore of Upolu and Savaii are at their best. North Pacific swells travel via Hawaii and hit Samoa's north shore approximately three to five days after hitting Oahu.
Staying in our resort might also mean you might cross paths with famous surfers from all over the world. Big names of the professional surfing world like Bethany Hamilton, Chris Lassen, Sonny Garcia have visited our resort over the years and we couldn't be more proud of having them as guests. Our laid-back atmosphere, location, friendly staff, and good service are what keeps attracting them to enjoy the surf and experience the best that Samoa has to offer.
A perfect day
You wake up at the break of dawn, walk down to the beach and hop in the surf guide’s boat. You marvel at the beautiful sunrise as you take a short trip to the chosen reef break. You hop in the clear warm water and have the most lovely Samoan waves all to yourself. You can stay out as long as you want until your energy finally drops. Then taking the short ride back to shore, looking down at the water you see some turtles swimming about, and looking up, you find yourself gazing at the tall volcanic peak completely covered in lush green vegetation. Back on land, you grab your stuff, take a quick rinse at the shower by the pool, and head over to our restaurant for some much-needed nourishment. Feeling recharged by the delicious food and drinks, you start to think, maybe I should go out again this afternoon?

From a busy life as lawyers in Los Angeles, CA to work on a remote, tropical island. Barry and his wife, Jennifer, started to think about leaving, retiring, and starting an entirely new life far away from the lights of Hollywood and the bustling Californian environment back in 1980. The plan started with a visit to Jennifer's favorite bar in Hawai - a trip that didn't necessarily come out as imagined and brought up their idea of going away, to a beach paradise, to build something better.
They finally left Beverly Hills in 1984, after they sold everything they owned and told all of their friends that they were setting out to find paradise and to build Jennifer's 3 stool bar. The expectation had been that they would find Paradise somewhere in the Caribbean, but after a year, they ended up in the South Pacific. Their journey and a lot of hard work brought them into a new and different life that didn't look any similar to that one they were used to in Beverly Hills. However, the willingness and desire to build something new that would make their guest's experience better was bigger than any difficulty that could come across their way, and Coconuts Beach Club Resort and Spa was founded in 1991 as a bar, that then developed into what it is today.
Since then, a lot has happened, from natural disasters (to which Coconuts have survived) to the passing away of Barry's wife, Jennifer. However, Barry is still very actively involved with Coconuts. What once was his and his wife's life dream and that nowadays is a place for many people’s lifetime memories.
