Bali offers various surf spots all over the island! Bali should be on your list whether you’re a total beginner and never even touched a board or if you’re a pro looking for some barrels and you want to work on your backflip skills! We talk about the west and east coast when choosing the perfect Bali surf spots for you.

The west coast has perfect waves in the dry season, which is typically from April to November. Our Seminyak camp is just a stone’s throw from spots as “Kudeta”, “Gado Gado” or “Nixoma”.

You should take the time to visit the famous surf spot Uluwatu, which is located on the Bukit peninsula, the southern part of beautiful Bali. “Ulus” sports the perfect left-hander break, and when the largest swell hits Bali it turns into big-wave surfing.

Perfect waves are available almost every day in Bali, but the east coast offers better conditions from December to March in the so-called wet season. Grab your board and let our drivers bring you to stunning spots like the “Mushroom”, “Green Bowl” or “Sanur Reef”.

Your Kima Surf experts compiled a list of 37 highly recommendable Bali surf spots for you, ranging from easy to hard with detailed information on the type, best season and the nearest camps.

The lodge

Cozy and stylish double and shared bedrooms, each with bathrooms and terraces, are located at the natural stone pools surrounded by a tropical garden. One pool has a comfortable, bubbly jacuzzi and the other one features a pool bar with a unique cocktail menu. All rooms on Bali meet western criteria and feature hot water, ventilation, or A/C.

Our lounges, some with sofas and some with bean bags, invite you to relax and rest between surfing sessions. In addition, all guests enjoy free wifi at our surf camp in Seminyak.

Surf guiding

Surf guiding is included in your package price for the Kima Bali surf camp Seminyak.

Twice a day, every day! We organize up to 16 trips daily, seven days a week for all surf levels to various breaks all around Bali. In other words, you can join two guided sessions per day. Small groups divided into different skill levels visit surf spots taking current tide, swell, and wind conditions into account. For total beginners, we recommend booking our 5-days Learn-to-Surf package.

Our well-trained Kima Bali surf camp guides always surf with you in the water, giving you tips and showing you tricks. They are familiar with the island and will tell you everything you need to know about the spot, pointing out any hazards. Our guided surf tours are always adapted to the given conditions and, depending on the swell, the odd secret spot may come to light.

Some of the surf sessions are filmed and analyzed afterward, six times a week. You can also join the theory lessons that we offer six times a week. Both options are included in your package.

Yoga for free

Yoga classes are included in your package price for the Kima Bali surf camp Seminyak.

Take a break from surfing and relax in our yoga classes. We offer yoga six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. Yoga is great to improve not only your flexibility and strength but even your balance and focus. Guess what – these skills are most important for surfing as well! Surfing and yoga are the perfect combinations and our classes are open for beginners and experienced yogis. We offer different styles, such as Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Ashtanga Yoga. Our private teachers will guide you through the 90-minute sessions and if you want to have a private class, you can book this with us.

Food + drink

Our Kima Bali surf camp Seminyak restaurant is open from 7 am to 11 pm and offers various international and local dishes created by our internationally experienced chef. We only use fresh ingredients and cater to a variety of options, such as vegan and vegetarian.

Our delicious breakfast options – plus an upgrade to deluxe breakfast – are available from 7 am to 12 pm at the surf hotel in Seminyak. Free tea and coffee are available every day until 6 pm. Our standard breakfast with a choice of fresh fruit juices, a starter such as a fruit salad or pancakes, and the main course like eggs, fried rice, or fried noodles is included in the camp price.

The cost of living in Bali is fairly low. A healthy and filling meal (e.g. fish with a side dish) costs around 3 €. The obligatory evening beer on the beach is likely to be the most expensive thing on the healthy Indonesian food menu. Fruit salad or Nasi/Mie Goreng (fried rice/noodles) can be found even on the most remote beaches. Our restaurant in the Seminyak surf camp also offers a variety of Indonesian dishes.

In Seminyak, there are plenty of good restaurants with high-quality food that cater to western tastes. You’ll find all sorts of food: German, Persian, Italian, Japanese, Greek, and Brazilian, plus international fast-food chains.

Transportation

Our surf camp in Seminyak goes on daily explorations to surf spots close by or further away. Thanks to our years of experience, we will bring you to the best breaks, beaches, and reefs up and down the island. We travel across the island by boat or car in small groups and are guided by the wishes and abilities of our guests. That means you can join at least 14 surf sessions a week.

Cultural & sporting trips

What would a surf holiday be without the social program? We can help you to organize day trips to the cultural highlights of Hindu Bali – palaces, rice terraces, and temples in the hinterland – and to the finest dining and shopping options plus hip hotspots along the coast. Prefer doing sports? That’s not a problem either at the surf camp in Seminyak! Choose from exciting activities leading on and underwater, go hiking on the volcano or hop onto a motorbike for the Bali dirt bike tour.

Board rental

Don’t worry about bringing your own board. We have it covered. We provide shortboards (5’8” – 7’0”), fun shapes, and mini-malibus (7’0” – 7’8”) as well as longboards (9’0”) available for every level and all conditions. Leashes and Lycra are included in the rental price. Any repairs or loss of equipment will need to be paid for.

It was “Pencak Silat”, a type of martial arts, that brought Ari to a training camp in Indonesia in 1989, where he was meant to be preparing for competitions in the homeland of this old Malaysian martial art. However, it wasn’t long before he got hooked on something completely different: surfing and the enchanting mentality of the people here. And thus, the idea of the Bali surfaris was born.

We are organizing surf camps and surfaris since 1995. Of course, lots of things have changed since then, but one thing still remains: surf safaris in Bali are a get-together of like-minded people with one and the same passion – surfing as a lifestyle.

And we all have one commitment: working hard to make the Bali Surf Camp an unforgettable experience for you.

Sustainability

Many years ago, the traditional Bali packaging – a banana leaf – was replaced by a plastic bag. This change was very rapid and many Indonesians, especially the older generation, could unfortunately not really grasp what this meant for the environment. Instead of banana leaves that decompose quickly, we now have plastic bags in the ditches, rivers, and, finally, in the sea, making Bali's environmental protection a key issue.

Even if it seems very simple and superficial, the banana leaf example is typical of the entire development of Bali, which in recent years, has shown an amazing pace in all sectors. Every year the number of hotels, cars, mopeds and tourists increases in Bali, mostly concentrated in the south of the island. This rapid development also causes problems, in particular an immense problem with waste disposal, and as a business enterprise, we see it as our duty to make the greatest possible contribution, at least in terms of environmental protection in Bali.

In our hotels, we started with measurements that are “normal” for western standards, for instance, asking our guests to switch off the lights, ventilator or air conditioning if they are not in the room or to use their towels more often. We have installed a water-saving button for toilet flushing and equipped the entire hotel with energy-saving lamps. In the meantime, the beach clean-up actions that are organized regularly have become very popular in Bali and are carried out by other business enterprises and us.

It is, however, more effective to tackle these problems at the source, and so we have banned one-way plastic packaging from our camp kitchens and restaurants and only use reusable containers for portioning and storing food, and for our takeaway breakfasts – which is quite expensive in Bali. At the reception at Bali Surf Camp, Seminyak and Canggu, guests can borrow a jute bag when they have shopping to do in the supermarket around the corner.

Kima refill bottles

We do not sell any beverages in plastic bottles and offer environmentally friendly water dispensers in all of our camps to use with our reusable stainless-steel, PVC-free Kima refillable bottle. This dramatically reduces the usage of plastic water bottles that are bought in supermarkets by our guests. Use our bottles to refill with fresh drinking water in the camp at any time. The enormous amounts of plastic waste are becoming an increasing problem in Bali. To help to keep Bali as plastic-free as possible, buy a Kima bottle and unlimited drinking water for only € 10. The income from the drink bottles goes mostly to the “R.O.L.E. Foundation”, an environmental and social project in Bali, which Kima supports as the main sponsor. We also work with the renowned and trustworthy waste disposal company “Bali-Recycling”, specializing in recycling and disposing of hazardous waste safely.
